Les Simms

Les Simms has over 25 years of experience in the color guard activity as a judge, performer, designer, consultant, and drill writer.  As his professional career moved him around, he sought out and worked with various schools in both North and South Carolina as an instructor, consultant, drill designer and uniform/flag designer Fall and Winter Seasons.  He is currently in his 4th year as the Colorguard Instructor at Union Pines High School


Les is the current director/instructor for Cumberland Independent Winterguard (CIWG) based out of Fayetteville, NC.  CIWG was created to provide a competitive indoor performance ensemble for those individuals that wanted to continue their growth in the colorguard activity in the Winter months after marching band season is over.  CIWG competes in the Atlantic Indoor Association(AIA) Competition Circuit which is the local circuit for indoor guard, percussion and winds units.  Les is currently serving his 2nd year as the AIA Southern Region President with AIA.


Professionally, Les is the Plant Engineer for a major food manufacturer located in Sanford, NC and holds a Bachelors’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from NC A&T Sate University in Greensboro, NC.  Les also works as a sales representative for BandToday, a supplier of marching band and colorguard shoes, equipment and accessories.  He is an Alumni of Assembly Line Winterguard( NC), Infiniti Winterguard(SC), Carolina Visual Productions (CVP) Winterguard(NC), Carolina Gold Drum & Bugle Corps(NC).
